Telangana Health Department Alerts Public Amid New Virus Concerns in China

Amid reports of the spread of a new virus identified as Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China, the Telangana government has issued an alert, urging citizens to remain cautious. The state's Health Department has advised individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms to wear masks and avoid crowded places. Officials confirmed that no HMPV cases have been reported in Telangana so far. Additionally, those suffering from cold or cough symptoms have been asked to maintain distance from others to prevent any potential transmission.

Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr. B. Ravindra Naik, stated, “There is no need for public concern regarding the newly reported virus in China, as no cases have been detected in Telangana.” He assured that the Health Department is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the central government, keeping track of reports related to Human Metapneumovirus. Dr. Naik further noted that there has been no significant change in the number of respiratory infections in 2024 compared to 2023.
