Two Women Marry in Uttar Pradesh: An Inspiring Journey of Love and Acceptance
In a notable event from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj, two women—Ranu and Jyoti—recently tied the knot with the consent of their families. The unique aspect of their marriage lies in the journey they undertook to overcome societal barriers, including a gender reassignment surgery for one of them, which reportedly cost ₹7 lakh.
Delving into the details, Indra Gupta, a jeweler in Kannauj’s Sadar Kotwali area, has a daughter named Shivangi. One day, Jyoti visited Gupta’s jewelry shop, leading to an initial interaction between the two women. Over time, their acquaintance deepened as they started speaking more frequently. Subsequently, Jyoti sought to rent a shop to open a beauty parlor. Shivangi offered a space in the same building where her family’s jewelry store was located. This professional association gradually blossomed into a romantic relationship.
However, the couple anticipated societal stigma due to their same-sex relationship. To address this, they decided to pursue a gender reassignment surgery for Shivangi. They consulted doctors in Lucknow and Delhi, undergoing the medical procedures successfully. Following the surgery, Shivangi changed her name to Ranu.
Their families, recognizing the strength of their love, extended their support. With their blessings, the couple married on November 25, 2024, marking a significant milestone in their lives.
