Telangana to Launch First Ropeway at Bhuvanagiri Fort Under ₹56.81 Crore Project

Telangana is set to introduce ropeway tourism, with plans to develop Bhuvanagiri Fort under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme at a cost of ₹56.81 crore. The state tourism department has recently invited tenders for the project, which includes constructing a one-kilometer-long ropeway from the Hyderabad-Warangal National Highway to the fort. This will be the first-ever ropeway in the state.

Bhuvanagiri Fort, built on a monolithic rock hill, has a centuries-old history and is a significant trekking destination. Currently, reaching the fort takes nearly an hour on foot. The introduction of the ropeway is expected to ease the climb and provide visitors with a unique experience. Along with the ropeway, the project also includes the restoration of the fort’s historic structures, a water pond, entrance gates, roads, and parking facilities.

Apart from Bhuvanagiri Fort, ropeway projects are also planned at Yadagirigutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Hanuman Konda in Nalgonda, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, and Ramagiri Fort in Manthani. The Nagarjuna Sagar ropeway will span five kilometers, while the others will be around two kilometers in length.

For the Bhuvanagiri Fort project, ₹15.20 crore has been allocated specifically for the ropeway construction. Additionally, ₹10.73 crore will be spent on a 30-meter-wide access road and parking facilities, ₹10.37 crore on entrance gates, tourism amenities, and historical structure restoration, and ₹11.11 crore for other infrastructure developments.
