Jagan Writes to Prime Minister Modi Over Delimitation Concerns

Widespread concern has emerged across southern states regarding the delimitation process, which involves the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies. It is feared that this process will disproportionately increase the number of Lok Sabha seats in northern states, leading to what is perceived as significant injustice to southern states.

In this context, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concerns over the potential implications of the delimitation process. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated in the letter that based on the current population figures, the southern states’ representation in Parliament would inevitably decline if the delimitation is carried out as proposed.

He urged the central government to ensure that the delimitation process is not based solely on population figures, which would adversely affect the southern states’ parliamentary representation. Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasized the importance of maintaining equal representation for all states in decisions made within Parliament.

He specifically requested that the number of parliamentary seats allotted to southern states should not be reduced and insisted that the delimitation exercise should proceed without diminishing any state's representation.

Meanwhile, in opposition to the delimitation process, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is presiding over an all-party meeting in Chennai. Following Jagan Mohan Reddy’s directives, Y.V. Subba Reddy conveyed the contents of the letter to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leadership.
