Trump Criticizes Canada, Calls It the 51st U.S. State

Amid ongoing trade tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump made sharp remarks about Canada, calling it "one of the poorest countries." In an interview, when asked why he was particularly tough on Canada compared to other nations, Trump responded with these critical comments.

He stated that he maintains direct or indirect relations with every country but finds dealing with Canada especially difficult. "Canada feels like one of the worst countries," he alleged.

Trump also explained why he referred to Canada as the "51st state." He claimed that the U.S. provides Canada with an annual subsidy of $200 billion, which, according to him, justifies treating it as another American state.

Furthermore, he asserted that the U.S. does not need anything from Canada, including its lumber, energy resources, or automobiles.

Recently, Mark Carney took office as Canada’s Prime Minister. Responding to Trump’s remarks, Carney stated that he would only be open to discussions if Trump refrains from using offensive language.
