AP Government Moves Ahead with Kurnool High Court Bench Plan

The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh has taken significant steps towards establishing a High Court bench in Kurnool, fulfilling its promise made during the 'Prajagalam' program. As part of this process, the state cabinet first passed a resolution, which was subsequently approved in the legislative assembly.
On October 28 last year, the then Secretary (FAC) of the State Law Department wrote to the Registrar General of the High Court, requesting that the matter be placed before the Competent Authority—comprising the full bench of High Court judges—for their opinion on setting up the bench in Kurnool. Now, the process has advanced further.
On January 29, High Court Registrar (Vigilance) Srinivasa Shivaram sent a letter to Kurnool Collector Ranjith Basha, requesting detailed information regarding infrastructure for 15 judges. The letter specifically sought data on the availability of essential facilities such as a court complex, courtrooms, staff offices, accommodations for judges, lawyers, and court personnel. Shivaram emphasized that the matter was urgent and instructed that the requested details be submitted within a day.
In response, the Kurnool Collector forwarded the request to the Superintendent Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department, the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, and the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). He directed them to examine whether any government or private buildings could meet the required infrastructure and submit a report accordingly.
