Telangana Government Announces Retirement Age Increase for University Professors

The Telangana government has announced an important decision regarding university professors in the state. The retirement age for professors has been increased from 60 to 65 years, and the government has issued an official order to implement this change.

The Telangana State Council of Higher Education had submitted a proposal to the government recommending the extension of the retirement age for university professors to 65 years. The decision will impact universities operating under the state’s higher education department. Currently, there are 12 universities under its jurisdiction.

Of the 2,817 sanctioned professor posts in these universities, only 757 positions are currently filled, leaving 2,060 vacancies. Additionally, every month, two to three professors retire from Osmania University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH), and Kakatiya University, further adding to the number of vacant positions.
