Steve Smith Reaches 10,000 Test Runs, Joins Elite List with Sachin Tendulkar

Australian cricket star Steve Smith has achieved a rare milestone by surpassing 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Smith reached this landmark during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. On the opening day of the match, he completed the milestone with a single off the very first ball he faced.

With this feat, Smith has joined the ranks of cricket’s greatest batsmen. Many expected him to reach this milestone during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series, but he had remained just one run short at 9,999. Smith is now only the fourth Australian player to cross the 10,000-run mark in Tests, following Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, and Allan Border.

Overall, Smith becomes the 15th player in Test history to achieve this milestone. He accomplished it in 115 Test matches, making him the second-fastest player to do so. Only Brian Lara reached 10,000 runs in fewer matches, achieving the feat in 111 Tests. In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara both took 195 Tests to reach the mark, while Ricky Ponting achieved it in 196 Tests.
