Mystery Illness in Jammu and Kashmir: Death Toll Rises to 13

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, a mysterious illness has caused panic among residents as the death toll of children affected by the disease has risen to 13. The latest fatality was reported after another child succumbed to the unexplained illness, which has been spreading since December 24.

The worst-affected area is Bedhal village, where a significant number of the fatalities have occurred. Local residents are living in fear as more children continue to show symptoms of the unidentified disease. Despite efforts by medical teams to treat the affected children at nearby hospitals, there has been little success so far.

The primary symptoms of this mysterious illness include high fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, and in some cases, loss of consciousness. These alarming signs have raised concerns among local health officials, prompting further investigation into the cause of the illness.

Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of Rajouri Medical College, commented on the situation, stating, “Preliminary indications suggest that it might be a viral infection. We are awaiting further test results to arrive at a definitive conclusion.”

In response to the growing health crisis, experts from leading medical institutions, including the National Institute of Virology (Pune), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), have been dispatched to Bedhal village. These teams will conduct detailed investigations to identify the source and nature of the disease.
