Car Runs Over Constables During Vehicle Checks in Kakinada

A car rammed into police constables during vehicle inspections in Kakinada, leaving two of them severely injured. The incident, which occurred late on Tuesday night near Krishnavaram in the Kirlampudi Mandal, has caused widespread alarm locally.

Police were conducting routine vehicle inspections on the national highway in the lead-up to New Year’s celebrations. At approximately 1:00 AM, a car traveling from Visakhapatnam to Rajamahendravaram was flagged down for inspection. The driver initially pretended to stop by pulling over to the roadside but suddenly accelerated and drove forward, striking two constables stationed at the checkpoint.

The injured constables, identified as Constable Raji Lovaraju from the Kirlampudi Police Station and another colleague, were critically wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle near the canal road in Rajanagaram and fled the scene. Police later apprehended the driver and other suspects in West Godavari district. The abandoned car was found to be registered in Uttar Pradesh, and authorities suspect it was being used for transporting cannabis.

A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
