Telugu Student Dies in Texas Road Accident

A tragic road accident in Texas, United States, claimed the life of a Telugu student, Vangavolu Deepti, originally from Rajendranagar in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. Deepti had recently travelled to Denton city in Texas to pursue her Master’s degree at the University of North Texas.
On April 12, Deepti and her friend Snigdha, who hails from Medikonduru, were walking on the road when a speeding car hit them. Deepti sustained a severe head injury, while Snigdha escaped with minor injuries. Both were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
Deepti’s friends informed her father, Hanumantharao, about the incident. He subsequently approached the office of Union Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandrashekhar in Guntur. The minister was alerted about the incident through his team in the United States.
Dr. Pemmasani promptly mobilized his team to ensure Deepti received the best possible medical care. His brother, Ravishankar Pemmasani, based in Guntur, requested his friend Naveen to initiate a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign raised approximately 80,000 US dollars, which was used towards Deepti’s treatment. Despite all efforts, Deepti passed away on April 15.
Ravishankar Pemmasani stated that arrangements are being made to bring Deepti’s body back to Guntur, and it is expected to arrive by Saturday.
Deepti’s father, Hanumantharao, is a small-scale trader. Her younger sister, Srilakshmi, is currently in her second year of engineering studies. Recalling her last conversation, Srilakshmi said she spoke to Deepti over the phone on April 10, and Deepti had asked her to go to college, mentioning they would talk again on Sunday. Tearfully, she recalled those as the last words she heard from her sister.
Deepti was known for her academic excellence, having consistently topped her class in 10th standard, intermediate, and engineering. Her parents said they had sold a piece of agricultural land to send her to the United States for higher education. Deepti had invited them to attend her graduation ceremony, and they were in the process of making travel arrangements when the tragedy occurred. The family is now grief-stricken and devastated by her untimely death.
