BCCI Revises Family Rule After Virat Kohli's Dissatisfaction!

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly reconsidering its "family rule" implemented after India's Test series loss in Australia. The rule, which restricts players from staying with their family members for extended periods during overseas tours, may be revised to allow players to apply for special permission if they wish to have their families with them for longer durations.
Recently, BCCI introduced a set of 10 guidelines regulating players' family time during international tours. According to these rules, for tours lasting less than 45 days, players' families can stay with them for only one week. For longer tours exceeding 45 days, the permitted duration is up to 14 days, and family members can join only after the first two weeks of the tour.
Expressing dissatisfaction with this policy, Virat Kohli emphasized that having loved ones close is crucial, especially in high-pressure situations during overseas tours. He argued that family presence could be beneficial for players' mental well-being. Responding to this concern, a senior BCCI official stated that players who wish to bring their families for extended stays can now apply for special permission, and the board will make appropriate decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Meanwhile, legendary cricketer Kapil Dev supported the idea of players having their families with them on tours. However, he also stressed the need for a balanced approach in resolving the issue. "The final decision rests with the cricket board. While family is important, the team’s priorities must also be considered," Kapil Dev remarked.
During the recent Champions Trophy, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami stayed with their families in Dubai but did not share accommodations with the team. The board did not cover their lodging expenses, and the players bore the costs themselves.
