"I Used to Rent a Bicycle Just to See Her Eyes": Director Vamsi

Veteran filmmaker and writer Vamsi, known for his distinctive storytelling and memorable films, recently shared personal anecdotes in an interview with iDream. His movies, often celebrated for their unique narratives and melodious songs, continue to have a dedicated audience.
Speaking about his early influences, Vamsi said, “I have loved reading books since childhood, and writing stories became a habit. Even in my early days, the stories I wrote won awards. In my films, I always emphasize the eyes of my heroines. The first time I was mesmerized by someone’s eyes was in a neighboring village. She was a nurse working at a hospital and was older than me.”
Recounting his admiration, he added, “I used to regularly go just to see her eyes. In fact, I would rent a bicycle just for that purpose. One day, while I was on my way, someone stopped me and said, ‘I know where you’re going… She has passed away.’ That deeply affected me. It wasn’t until I moved to Madras that I saw such beautiful eyes again. That girl later became the heroine I introduced.”
