YSRCP’s Defeat with Just 11 Seats Remains a Mystery: Ambati Rambabu

Former minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Ambati Rambabu expressed deep disappointment over the party’s severe defeat in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. Speaking at an event in Anakapalli district’s Kasimkota on Friday, where former MLA Karanam Dharmasri took charge as the YSRCP Anakapalli Parliament constituency in-charge, Ambati reflected on the party’s unexpected loss.

“We never anticipated such a massive defeat. We believed Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would become Chief Minister again, but we were completely defeated,” he said. Acknowledging the results, he added, “We won only 11 seats, and we have to accept this loss.”

Ambati stated that the YSRCP leadership was unable to comprehend how the party ended up with just 11 seats, while the opposition alliance secured a staggering 164 seats. He questioned whether this outcome was solely due to a few opposition leaders coming together or if there was an underlying, unknown wave of anti-incumbency against YSRCP. “Or was there some kind of manipulation involved?” he speculated, while reiterating that the party had to accept its defeat.

He further mentioned that as part of YSRCP’s rebuilding efforts, Jagan Mohan Reddy had appointed Karanam Dharmasri as the Anakapalli Parliament in-charge.
