The non-stop entertainer Sankranti Vasthunnam, starring Venkatesh in the lead role and directed by Anil Ravipudi, has been a roaring success since its theatrical release on January 14. Featuring Aishwarya Rajesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female leads, the film was produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. Over its 13-day run, the movie has grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide, marking the highest box office earnings in Venkatesh's career.
The film has consistently drawn audiences to theaters, achieving houseful collections even weeks after its release. However, in a surprising development, it has been revealed that Sankranti Vasthunnam will soon debut on an OTT platform, causing widespread discussion among fans and industry insiders.
The OTT rights for the film have been acquired by Zee5, and according to a pre-existing agreement, the film is scheduled to start streaming on the platform in the first half of February. This has reportedly caused concern among the film’s makers, as the movie continues to perform strongly in theaters.
Director Anil Ravipudi and producer Dil Raju have reportedly requested Zee5 to delay the OTT release, citing the ongoing success of the film at the box office. Discussions are currently underway, but reports suggest that Zee5 is firm on adhering to the original agreement and streaming the film as planned. Despite this, Dil Raju is said to be making persistent efforts to negotiate a revised streaming date.
