Uttar Pradesh Government Ensures Clean Air at Maha Kumbh with Japanese Method

The Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj's Triveni Sangam is witnessing a massive influx of devotees. Every day, millions gather to take a holy dip in the sacred waters. Despite the large crowds, the air quality remains remarkably clean, thanks to the meticulous planning by the Uttar Pradesh government over the past two years.
Ahead of the Maha Kumbh Mela, the state government began preparations two years ago, focusing extensively on improving air quality in the region. Considering the expected arrival of millions of devotees, authorities explored innovative solutions to ensure clean air.
As part of this effort, the Japanese ‘Miyawaki’ technique was employed to plant trees in the Prayagraj region. This technique emphasizes planting the maximum number of trees in minimal space, creating dense urban forests. Using this approach, officials created a total of ten green pockets spanning 18.50 acres, effectively crafting a series of micro-forests.
Over 500,000 saplings from 63 native species, including Banyan, Neem, Tamarind, Indian Gooseberry, Bamboo, and Peepal, were planted using this method. The government invested ₹6 crore in the project, which resulted in the saplings maturing into trees within two years. These trees now contribute significantly to purifying the air by releasing fresh oxygen into the atmosphere.
