Senior IPS Harish Kumar Gupta Emerges as Frontrunner for AP DGP Post!

The current Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, is set to retire on January 31. Discussions have begun regarding the appointment of the next AP police chief. According to the seniority list, Madireddy Pratap, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer currently serving as the Director General of the Fire Services Department, holds the top position. Harish Kumar Gupta, a 1992-batch IPS officer and the current Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement, is ranked second.

Speculation is rife that Harish Kumar Gupta may be appointed as the new DGP of Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, it is being suggested that the outgoing DGP, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who is already serving as the Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) in an additional capacity, may continue in that role post-retirement.

Harish Kumar Gupta previously held the position of DGP briefly during the general elections. After the coalition government came to power, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao was appointed as the DGP.
