Kerala Man’s Burial Mystery Creates Stir; Body Recovered by Police

A man’s burial has caused a sensation in Kerala, after claims that he had chosen a "living burial." The man, identified as Gopan Swami, hailed from Thiruvananthapuram. His family members recently circulated posters saying he had entered a "living burial" voluntarily.

The incident raised doubts among relatives and locals, as many were unaware of his decision. Gopan Swami’s sons, Rajeshan and Sanandan, said their father had asked them not to inform anyone about his burial.

The matter reached the authorities, prompting Sub-Collector Alfred Ovi to investigate. The family claimed Gopan Swami had been buried near a temple in Neyyattinkara. With the help of the police, officials reached the site to examine the burial. The family resisted the excavation, forcing officials to obtain a High Court order to proceed.

Police resumed the excavation under tight security. They found Gopan Swami’s body inside the burial site. He was seated in a meditative posture, surrounded by ritual items. Officials revealed that the burial chamber was filled with materials up to his chest.

Police transferred the body to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Further investigations are ongoing.
