Telangana and AP Clash over Nagarjunasagar Dam Security
Dramatic developments unfolded at the Nagarjunasagar Dam, a significant irrigation project, amid the ongoing water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is well known that the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) entrusted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with overseeing the dam’s security. However, personnel from the Special Protection Force (SPF) of both states have also been managing security responsibilities in their respective territories.
On Saturday, a sudden turn of events occurred when CRPF personnel stationed on the Telangana side unexpectedly withdrew from their duties. SPF personnel were deployed in their place. The withdrawal sparked widespread attention across both Telugu states. Media reports highlighted this abrupt development, prompting higher authorities to issue fresh orders for the CRPF to resume security responsibilities on the Telangana side later in the day.
Speaking to the media, Dam Assistant Engineer Sridhar Rao clarified that his team had no information regarding the withdrawal of CRPF forces, as KRMB handles such matters. CRPF Assistant Commandant Sahir stated that the withdrawal was carried out based on instructions from senior officials in the morning, and they were reassigned to their duties at the dam by evening.
These dramatic developments have become a topic of intense discussion in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
