Jasprit Bumrah Achieves Rare Feat in Gabba Test, Breaks Kapil Dev's Record
Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah achieved a significant milestone during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane. In Australia’s second innings, Bumrah clean-bowled opener Usman Khawaja and dismissed Marnus Labuschagne, becoming the Indian bowler with the most Test wickets on Australian soil.
Bumrah surpassed Indian legend Kapil Dev to set this record. With the Brisbane Test included, Bumrah has taken 52 wickets in 10 Tests in Australia. Kapil Dev previously held the record with 51 wickets in 11 matches.
Following Bumrah and Kapil Dev on the list of Indian bowlers with the most Test wickets in Australia are Anil Kumble (49 wickets in 10 matches), Ravichandran Ashwin (40 wickets in 11 matches), and Bishan Singh Bedi (35 wickets in 7 matches).
Meanwhile, Australia declared their second innings at 89/7, setting India a target of 275 runs, including a first-innings lead of 185 runs.
