Gujarat Titans Defeat Delhi Capitals in Historic 204-Run Chase
In a thrilling encounter of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season held on Saturday, Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a spectacular victory. In the 35th league match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat team defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 7 wickets. Jos Butler played a crucial role in the win with a destructive innings, remaining unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes. Gujarat successfully chased down Delhi’s imposing target of 204 runs with four balls to spare.

With 10 runs needed off the final six balls, Rahul Tewatia struck a six and a four off Mitchell Starc’s over, securing a memorable win for Gujarat. In a similar situation during the previous match, Starc had bowled the Super Over and played a key role in his team’s victory. However, he failed to replicate that magic this time, as Tewatia gave him no chance.

This was the first time Gujarat Titans chased a target exceeding 200 runs in IPL history. Their previous highest successful chase was 198 runs.

Butler Anchors Despite Wicket Fall
Chasing a hefty total of 204 runs, Gujarat Titans suffered an early setback as captain Shubman Gill was run out for 7. However, fellow opener Sai Sudharsan provided momentum with a brisk 36 off 21 balls, hitting 5 fours and 1 six. After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Jos Butler unleashed a dominant assault. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Butler held firm with a lone battle. He received excellent support from Sherfane Rutherford, who contributed 43 off 34 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. Together, they built a crucial third-wicket partnership.

Following Rutherford’s dismissal, Rahul Tewatia (11 not out off 3 balls; 1 four, 1 six) finished the match in his signature style. Gujarat scored 204 for 3 in 19.2 overs to seal the win. For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

Delhi’s Big Total… Prasidh Krishna’s Breakthroughs
Earlier, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field. Delhi Capitals posted a formidable total of 203 for 8 in 20 overs. Captain Axar Patel top-scored with 39 off 32 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes, while Ashutosh Sharma added late fireworks with 37 off 19 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Tristan Stubbs (31), Karun Nair (31), and KL Rahul (28) also made valuable contributions, helping Delhi amass a large total.

Gujarat bowler Prasidh Krishna delivered a remarkable spell, taking 4 crucial wickets for 41 runs in his 4 overs, curbing Delhi’s momentum. Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, and Ishant Sharma took one wicket each.
