Beating the Heat: Principal’s Unique Summer Cooling Solution

Summer, among all seasons, is known to be the most oppressive, causing widespread discomfort due to intense heat, scorching winds, and sweltering humidity. In an effort to provide relief to students from this harsh climate, a college principal in Delhi has undertaken a unique initiative.
Dr. Pratyush Vatsala, Principal of Lakshmibai College under Delhi University, has introduced an unconventional method to tackle the extreme summer temperatures. Daytime temperatures in Delhi often exceed 45 degrees Celsius during peak summer, creating an unbearable atmosphere for students inside classrooms. To address this, Dr. Pratyush Vatsala applied cow dung to the walls of all classrooms in the college, personally overseeing the process.
She explained that applying cow dung helps block heat from entering the rooms, thereby maintaining a cooler environment inside. According to Dr. Pratyush Vatsala, this experiment is part of an ongoing research effort aimed at finding sustainable and low-cost methods to cool indoor spaces.
“We applied cow dung to the classroom walls as part of our research on maintaining cool indoor temperatures during summer. We will share the detailed findings of our study within a week,” said Dr. Pratyush Vatsala.
A video of this initiative has gone viral on social media, drawing attention and sparking discussion over the novel method used to counter extreme heat conditions.
