Amit Shah Accuses Political Parties of Using Language Issue for Political Gain

Union Minister Amit Shah emphasized that Hindi is not a competitor to any language but a sister language to all Indian languages. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he alleged that some political parties are using the language issue for their own political gains and to cover up corruption. He stressed that India's linguistic diversity is a national treasure and warned that attempts to create divisions over language will not succeed.

Amit Shah pointed out that the Modi government established the Department of Official Language with the primary objective of promoting all regional languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, and Assamese. He noted that certain political forces are falsely propagating that the central government is against South Indian languages.

“If that were the case, how am I serving as a minister from Gujarat and Nirmala Sitharaman from Tamil Nadu?” Shah questioned. He criticized the Tamil Nadu government, stating that while the central government has been urging the state to offer engineering and medical education in Tamil for the past two years, no progress has been made. He promised that if his party comes to power, medical and engineering education would be made available in Tamil.

Shah reiterated that language-based divisions had already caused significant harm in the past and assured that no further division would be allowed on this basis. He concluded by reaffirming that the language debate is being stirred up purely for political benefits and not in the interest of the country.
