Chris Gayle Still Holds the Record for Fastest IPL Century – Check the Top 10

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 22, 2025. Players from all ten teams are currently engaged in training camps and traveling to their respective venues for their opening matches. The tournament will commence with a match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The final will be held on May 25, 2025, concluding the two-month-long cricketing spectacle.

As excitement builds for the upcoming season, a look back at the fastest centuries in IPL history reveals some incredible performances. The record for the fastest century remains unbroken since 2013, when West Indies star Chris Gayle smashed a hundred in just 30 balls against Pune Warriors while playing for RCB.

The second-fastest century was scored by former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan in 2010. Representing Rajasthan Royals, Pathan reached his hundred in just 37 balls against Mumbai Indians.

South African batsman David Miller holds the third spot, having scored a century in 38 balls for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) against RCB in 2013.

Australia's Travis Head is in fourth place. In the 2024 IPL season, he registered a century in just 39 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against RCB.

The fifth-fastest IPL century also came in 2024, when England’s Will Jacks, playing for RCB, scored a hundred in 41 balls against Gujarat Titans.

In the inaugural IPL season of 2008, Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist recorded one of the fastest centuries, reaching the milestone in 42 balls for Deccan Chargers Hyderabad.

South African legend AB de Villiers, known as "Mr. 360," ranks seventh on the list. In the 2016 season, he smashed a 43-ball century for RCB against Gujarat Lions.

David Warner, another Australian great, also scored a 43-ball century in 2017 while playing for SRH against KKR, placing him in eighth position.

Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya is ninth on the list. He reached his hundred in just 45 balls for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural 2008 season.

The tenth-fastest IPL century was scored by Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal, who reached the milestone in 45 balls for Punjab Kings against Rajasthan Royals in 2020. England’s Jonny Bairstow, also playing for Punjab Kings, equaled this record with a 45-ball century against KKR in 2024.

Despite many explosive innings over the years, only two Indian cricketers—Yusuf Pathan and Mayank Agarwal—feature in the top 10 fastest centuries in IPL history. As the 2025 season unfolds, fans will be eager to see if any new records are set in the world’s biggest T20 league.
