Don’t Rush Arrests: Harish Rao Urges DGP, Police

BRS senior MLA and former Minister Harish Rao, along with former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, expressed sharp criticism over the midnight arrest of Huzurabad MLA and BRS leader Padi Kaushik Reddy. Addressing the issue, Harish Rao appealed to the Director General of Police (DGP) and other officials, urging them not to make hurried arrests in politically driven cases. He questioned the necessity of an arrest during late hours in cases involving bailable sections.

“There is no need to arrest someone at midnight when the charges are under bailable sections,” Harish Rao remarked. He further criticized the police, stating that they should not act under the influence of political leaders. Harish Rao pointed out that the Supreme Court and High Courts have clearly directed that station bail should be granted in such cases. He expressed displeasure over Kaushik Reddy’s arrest during a festival and said, “Arresting him as though he were a terrorist is unacceptable.” He also alleged that the arrested leader was kept overnight at a police station in Karimnagar without adequate facilities, causing him to endure mosquito bites.

Former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav also condemned the incident, questioning the police’s decision to arrest Kaushik Reddy on a festive day. “How can someone be arrested during a festival, preventing them from celebrating with family?” Talasani Srinivas Yadav criticized the handling of the situation, recalling that illegal detentions were more frequent during Congress rule. He emphasized that such arbitrary arrests are improper and assured that they would continue their fight legally. “We will pursue a rightful legal battle, exercising the constitutional rights granted to us,” he added.
