I Would Have Been Proud Even If My Son Had Died Then: Yuvraj Singh’s Father

Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, made a bold statement regarding his son’s contributions during the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Speaking on a podcast titled "Unfiltered by Samdish," Yograj expressed that Yuvraj’s commitment to the nation, even while battling cancer, earned him immense respect across India. He remarked that he would have felt proud even if Yuvraj had died during the 2011 World Cup, given his son’s unmatched dedication and heroic efforts.

“Despite fighting cancer, Yuvraj led India to a World Cup victory. If he had passed away after winning the World Cup for India, I, as his father, would have been proud. Even now, I take great pride in what he achieved. I conveyed this to him over a phone call. During one match in the tournament, he vomited blood. I told him then, ‘Don’t worry. You will win this World Cup for India,’” said Yograj during the podcast.

Yuvraj Singh, known as one of India’s finest middle-order batsmen, displayed remarkable dedication to the sport. Despite his cancer diagnosis, he played a pivotal role in India’s triumph in the 2011 World Cup, scoring 362 runs at an impressive average of 90.50 and a strike rate of 86.19. His all-round performance, including several vital wickets, earned him the prestigious 'Player of the Series' title.

It was only after the World Cup concluded that Yuvraj’s lung cancer was diagnosed. He subsequently underwent treatment and made a strong comeback to the Indian team. Yuvraj continued to represent India until 2019, before announcing his retirement from international cricket later that year.
