YS Sharmila Slams NDA Government Ahead of Modi’s Vizag Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Visakhapatnam today, where he will inaugurate development projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore. In response to the visit, Andhra Pradesh Congress chief YS Sharmila took to social media, expressing strong criticism of the NDA government for its failure to fulfill promises made during the state’s bifurcation.

“Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, while you wait for Modi, the people of Andhra Pradesh are waiting for his promises to be fulfilled. The public expects answers regarding the betrayal of bifurcation assurances. At the Tirupati meeting, in your presence, Modi assured special status for ten years. You even requested it be extended to fifteen years. Despite grand declarations, nothing materialized. Special status, which could have been a lifeline for the state, was turned into a political game,” said Sharmila in her statement.

She further criticized the NDA government, claiming that backward region packages were not delivered, no capital city comparable to Delhi was developed, industrial corridors were not established, and even after ten years, the Polavaram project remains incomplete. She also pointed out that the Kadapa steel plant has not been built and the Vizag Steel Plant remains unprotected from privatization.

Taking aim at the employment promises, Sharmila remarked, “Out of the annual promise of 2 crore jobs, not even one lakh jobs were provided to the state.” She urged Prime Minister Modi to announce special status for Andhra Pradesh, provide clarity on the bifurcation assurances, and make a clear statement against the privatization of the Vizag Steel Plant. Additionally, she called upon Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan to press these demands during Modi’s visit.
