Formula E Car Race Controversy: Telangana Government Alleges Quid Pro Quo
The Formula E car race in Hyderabad has sparked a political storm in Telangana, with the state government now making serious allegations of quid pro quo in connection with the event. In a recent disclosure, the Telangana government alleged that significant financial benefits were provided to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party through Greenko, the company that organized the race.
According to the government’s statement, Greenko paid the BRS party a total of ₹41 crores through electoral bonds. It was revealed that Greenko and its subsidiaries purchased BRS electoral bonds 26 times between April 8, 2022, and October 10, 2022. The government has described this as evidence of an improper financial arrangement that benefited the ruling party.
Meanwhile, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, who has been named as Accused No. 1 (A1) in this case, was summoned for questioning by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today. However, the interrogation could not proceed, as the police reportedly denied entry to K.T. Rama Rao’s legal team. Following this, K.T. Rama Rao left without participating in the questioning. Sources indicate that the ACB is considering issuing fresh summons to him.
The Formula E race, originally intended to promote Hyderabad as a global destination for electric motorsports, has now become a focal point of political controversy in the state, with opposition parties demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged financial misconduct.
