BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri’s Remark Comparing Roads to Priyanka Gandhi’s Cheeks Draws Flak
BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri sparked controversy during an election rally by promising to make roads in Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency "shine like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks" if he is elected. Bidhuri, who is contesting against AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi from the Kalkaji constituency in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, made these remarks while addressing a public gathering.
Bidhuri stated, "In the past, Bihar’s former Chief Minister and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav falsely promised to make roads as smooth as Hema Malini’s cheeks. However, unlike him, I have genuinely developed roads in areas such as Okhla and Sangam Vihar. Similarly, I will ensure that Kalkaji’s roads are developed to the same standard—so smooth that they will shine like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks."
His comments quickly drew sharp criticism from leaders of the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who accused him of making disrespectful and inappropriate remarks. Following the backlash, Bidhuri retracted his comments and announced on social media platform X that he was withdrawing his statement.
Despite apologizing for the controversial comment, Bidhuri went on to level serious accusations against his opponent Atishi. He alleged, "Atishi has even changed her father’s name. She altered her surname from Marlena to Singh. This shows her real history."
The remarks by Bidhuri and his subsequent accusations against Atishi have added fuel to the political rivalry ahead of the Delhi elections. Congress and AAP leaders have condemned the language used by the BJP leader, with some calling for stricter measures against such conduct.
