PM Modi’s Visit to Visakhapatnam Focused on Key Project Launches: Minister Nara Lokesh

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Visakhapatnam on January 8, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh conducted a review meeting in the city today. Lokesh personally inspected the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit and addressed the media, stating that the purpose of Modi’s visit is to inaugurate several key projects in the region.

During the visit, Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for a bulk drug park at Nakkapalli, a ₹70,000-crore NTPC green energy project, and a major project under the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Economic Corridor at Krishnapatnam. Lokesh also revealed that the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate road projects completed at a cost of ₹3,900 crore.

Lokesh emphasized the significance of establishing the long-anticipated Visakhapatnam Railway Zone headquarters. He highlighted that delays in the railway zone project were due to the previous government’s failure to allocate land. Now, with the allocation completed under the coalition government, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the railway zone headquarters and related infrastructure. In addition, Lokesh stated that Modi will also inaugurate various railway development projects in the state.

Commenting on Modi’s first visit to Visakhapatnam since the NDA's election victory, Lokesh assured that the Prime Minister would receive a grand welcome. He asserted that the coalition government is committed to restoring the state’s progress, which he claimed was derailed under the previous YSRCP government. Lokesh criticized the former government, calling it a “fake government” that failed to create employment opportunities for the youth of Uttarandhra. He alleged that the previous administration neglected development for five years, leaving the state in disarray.

Lokesh credited the coalition government with bringing prominent IT companies, including TCS, to Visakhapatnam. He further claimed that the NDA coalition was responsible for the successful land acquisition for the city’s airport expansion.

Regarding the Rishikonda Palace, Lokesh remarked that there is now uncertainty over its future, accusing the previous government of wasting ₹1,000 crore for the benefit of a single individual. He criticized the YSRCP for driving away existing companies during its tenure and claimed that firms like Google and TCS are now coming to Andhra Pradesh under the coalition government’s leadership.

Addressing the issue of volunteers, Lokesh clarified that the previous government did not issue any official orders (GOs) regarding their responsibilities. He alleged that during the elections, 80% of volunteers were forced to resign by YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy.
