2025 Union Cabinet Holds First Meeting, Announces Key Decisions for Farmers

The Union Cabinet convened its first meeting of 2025 on Wednesday, taking several significant decisions aimed at the welfare of farmers. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the meeting, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was dedicated to the agricultural community. He emphasized that discussions during the session primarily revolved around initiatives for farmers' welfare.

One of the key decisions included enhancing the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme). The Cabinet approved an increase in allocations for the scheme, raising it to ₹69,515 crore to improve its effectiveness and outreach. Additionally, the Cabinet extended a ₹3,850 crore special package for providing 50 kg DAP fertilizer bags to farmers at a subsidized price of ₹1,350 each, aiming to reduce input costs and support agricultural productivity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting. In a tweet on the social media platform X, he reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to farmers' welfare, stating, "We are proud of our farmers who work tirelessly to feed the nation. The first Union Cabinet meeting of 2025 has been dedicated to their well-being, and we are delighted to announce key decisions that will benefit them."
