Elon Musk Calls for H-1B Visa Reforms, Labels System as "Broken"

Elon Musk, billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla, has reiterated his concerns regarding the H-1B visa program, calling for significant reforms to address what he described as a "broken" system. The H-1B visa program is primarily used to bring skilled foreign workers to the United States.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk suggested that issues in the H-1B visa system could be resolved by significantly increasing the minimum wage for H-1B workers and adding an annual operational cost for managing the visa program. “This would make hiring foreign workers over domestic ones significantly more expensive,” Musk explained.

Responding to a netizen’s comment on the platform stating that America should remain a destination for the world’s best talent but that the H-1B visa program should not be the only pathway, Musk agreed and echoed these sentiments.

Recently, Musk declared his willingness to "fight for the preservation of H-1B visas" while also advocating for reforms. He also had a public spat with Donald Trump’s supporters over the program.

In addition to Musk, Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who has emerged as a significant voice in the debate, has also expressed support for the H-1B visa program. However, Ramaswamy emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms. Interestingly, Musk himself migrated to the United States from South Africa under the H-1B visa system, highlighting his firsthand experience with the program’s benefits.
