Pushpa 2 Controversy: TDP MLA Questions Purpose of Benefit Shows
The controversy surrounding the benefit shows for the movie Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun, has drawn significant attention. A stampede at the Sandhya Theatre resulted in the tragic death of a woman named Revathi, while her 9-year-old son, Sritej, sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized. Following the incident, an FIR was registered naming Allu Arjun as Accused No. 11 (A11), leading to his arrest. However, he was released after being granted interim bail by the High Court.
Amid this backdrop, Andhra Pradesh TDP MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy strongly criticized the practice of benefit shows, questioning their purpose and impact. He demanded an explanation from the film industry regarding who these shows truly benefit.
“I am questioning the filmmakers and the producers' guild. For whose benefit are you organizing these benefit shows? Why are you seeking special permissions from the government? Should the government allow benefit shows just to serve your profits? Back in the day, legends like N.T. Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao conducted benefit shows to use the proceeds for societal welfare. Permissions for benefit shows should be granted only when they are intended for public good. Why should permissions be given for the sake of producers or the wealthy? I, therefore, demand a complete ban on benefit shows,” said Bandaru Satyanarayana firmly.
