Major Relief for Home Guards: High Court Orders Special Consideration in Constable Recruitment

In a significant ruling, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has provided considerable relief to home guards by instructing the state-level police recruitment board to consider home guards as a special category in the constable recruitment process. The high court has directed the board to prepare a special merit list within six weeks.

This decision comes as the state government moves ahead with the large-scale recruitment of constable posts, prompting home guards to approach the high court. The home guards sought to be considered under a special category in the constable selection process. Advocates Srinakumar, Sivarama, and Anjaneyulu presented arguments on behalf of the petitioners in the high court.

The government, represented by the Advocate General, argued that home guard candidates who did not secure qualifying marks in the preliminary written examination had filed the petitions, and it was not permissible to change the selection criteria once the notification was issued.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the high court issued a final verdict directing that home guards be treated as a special category in the recruitment process.
