AP Government Introduces New Maritime Policy
The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled the AP Maritime Policy 2024-29, aimed at fostering port-based development, industrial projects, shipbuilding clusters, logistics, and other maritime services. The new policy aligns with the state’s maritime vision and focuses on attracting significant investments.
The policy leverages the state’s long coastline, ports, and infrastructure to boost port-related projects. It outlines a roadmap to transform Andhra Pradesh into India’s premier maritime gateway by 2030. Infrastructure development is planned to increase cargo handling capacity, with the goal of placing one of the world's top 20 major ports in Andhra Pradesh.
By 2047, the government aims for 20% of the country's total cargo to be managed by ports in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, the policy targets training 5,000 maritime experts by 2028. To ensure seamless implementation, the government has designated the AP Maritime Board as the nodal agency.
