Restoring the Glory of the Police Department: Home Minister Vanagalapudi Anitha

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vanagalapudi Anitha announced that a record allocation of ₹8,495 crore has been made for the police department in the 2024-25 state budget. She highlighted that police officers endured numerous hardships under previous administrations due to limited resources. After the coalition government came into power, a reform of the police department was undertaken. So far, ₹62 crore has been released for the modernization of police forces and improvement of basic infrastructure.

The Home Minister stated that new special police battalions will be established in Srikakulam, Chittoor, Prakasam, and Rajamahendravaram. She added that the government is committed to eliminating drug abuse from the state, a pressing issue left unaddressed by the previous administration. As part of this commitment, an Anti-Narcotics Task Force has been established, and 13 fast-track NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) courts will be set up to expedite drug-related cases.

To prevent students from falling prey to drug addiction, plans are underway to provide training to 3,172 units in higher educational institutions. Additionally, a cyber police station will be set up in each district to curb cyber crimes. For women’s safety, special women’s help desks staffed with 300 personnel will be established across the state, according to Minister Anitha.
