First Telugu news reader Shantiswaroop no more

Hyderabad: Shantiswaroop, recognized as the first Telugu TV news reader, has passed away. He breathed his last at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad. He suffered a heart attack two days ago and was immediately rushed to the hospital by his family members. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to his condition.

He began his career as a news reader on Doordarshan channel on November 14, 1983. For a decade, he delivered the news by merely looking at papers, without the aid of a teleprompter, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of the Telugu audience. He continued reading news until his retirement in 2011. 

Shantiswaroop was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Politicians and journalists have expressed their condolences over his death. His wife, Rojarani, who was also a TV anchor, passed away some time ago. They are survived by two sons.
