Two suspects held for daylight robbery at Pragati Maidan tunnel
New Delhi: Delhi Police have nabbed two suspects in connection with the daylight robbery at gunpoint inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel on Saturday, the police said on Monday.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Pranav Tayal, said that the remaining suspects have been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest them.
On Saturday afternoon, a delivery agent and his associate were robbed of around Rs 2 lakh cash at gunpoint inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel by four men who came on two bikes.
The tunnel is located near the Supreme Court, high court, and old Delhi Police headquarters.
According to police, Patel Sajan Kumar, who works as a delivery agent at Omiya Enterprises in Chandni Chowk, came to the Tilak Marg police station and submitted a written complaint regarding this incident.
Kumar told the police that he, along with his friend Jigar Patel, was going to Gurugram to deliver a bag of cash.
"They hired an Ola cab from Lal Qila, and when the cab entered the tunnel, four men on two motorcycles intercepted their vehicle and robbed the bag containing about Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint," the police said.
A CCTV footage of the incident is doing rounds on social media, raising a concern about people's safety in the national Capital.
The CCTV footage shows two bikes abruptly cutting off the car's path, forcing it to come to a halt. Within moments, two of the miscreants disembarked and pointed their firearms at the occupants of the car. One of the robbers swiftly opened the rear left door of the cab and snatched a black bag containing cash.
