Rajamahendravaram Road-cum-rail bridge to be closed for one week
In an official release, East Godavari District Collector K Madhavi Latha said, the road-cum-railway bridge will be closed for one week to take up repair works and the vehicular traffic will be diverted via Dhavaleswaram Cotton barrage and Gaman bridge.
The Collector announcing closure of the bridge gained prominence when Amaravati farmers’ padayatra will pass through this bridge on Monday (October 17).
Reacting sharply over this announcement, opposition parties alleged that the officials are closing the bridge wantonly since the farmers’ padayatra will pass through this bridge. They said the government is afraid of Amaravati farmers’ padayatra.
Amaravati farmers JAC leader said that the government couldn’t deter their aim by closing the bridge. At the most the padayatra will extend for another two days, he said, adding that they are glad at last finally the government has decided to conduct repairs to the bridge.
