Former Araku MP Kothapalli Geetha arrested by CBI
Hyderabad, September 14: The CBI arrested former Araku MP Kothapalli Geetha here on Wednesday over a security fraud case registered by the Punjab National Bank (PNB) against her.
According to the PNB, her husband PRK Rao took Rs 50 crore loan in the name of Visweswara Infrastructure. Geetha, who was then YSRCP MP, was guarantor for the loan. Rs 25 crore cheque issued by Rao to PNB bounced. A criminal case was booked against Geetha and Rao.
The CBI officials shifted Geetha to the Osmania General Hospital from her residence for medical examination. Later, she was produced before a CBI court. The court sentenced Geetha and her husband to five years in prison and Rs 1 lakh fine. Meanwhile, her lawyers filed a bail petition in Telangana High Court.
After quitting YSRCP, she launched a new political outfit called Jana Jagruti Party in 2018. Later, Geetha merged her party with the BJP.
