KTR inaugurates Safran’s largest MRO facility for aircraft, rocket engines in Hyd
Hyderabad, July 7: Minister for IT and Industries K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) on Thursday inaugurated French aviation giant Safran’s largest MRO facility for maintenance of aircraft and rocket engines at GMR Aerospace city.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said that the Telangana government started negotiations with Safran from 2020. “Safran decided to set up its units - electrical & power factory and aircraft engines – here despite Chennai and Bengaluru competing with Hyderabad,” he mentioned.
Initially, the MRO facility will recruit 200 employees and strength will be increased to 1,000 by 2035. It is being set up with an initial investment of Rs 1,200 crore. The company wants to service 300 aircraft engines annually in India and expecting huge market as air traffic will become double in next 10 years.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay, SAFRAN CEO Olivier Andries, Principal Secretary (Industries) Jayesh Ranjan, Aerospace & Defense Director Praveen and other officials were present.
