Journalist Krishnam Raju Arrested
The incident stems from a panel discussion aired on Sakshi TV, a channel associated with the YSR Congress Party. Journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao moderated the programme during which Krishnam Raju allegedly stated, “Amaravati is the capital of prostitutes.” The moment this statement was broadcast, it drew immediate and intense backlash from the public. Demonstrations erupted in various locations demanding apologies from Krishnam Raju, Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, and Sakshi TV management.
Residents of the Amaravati capital region expressed their anger by marching to the Tullur police station to file a complaint. Additionally, multiple cases have been registered in police stations across different districts in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the same remarks. The controversy has also caught the attention of the National Commission for Women, which has taken cognizance of the issue. Telugu Desam Party Member of Parliament Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission regarding the incident.
Previously, Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was also arrested in relation to this case. He was remanded for 14 days by the Mangalagiri court. With the latest arrest of Krishnam Raju, the investigation into the matter is expected to intensify further.
