Minister Errabelli inaugurates EESL’s Gram Panchayat LED Street Lighting Project

  • As part of the project, around 7. 9 lakh energy efficient, smart LED streetlights will be installed/retrofitted in 12,753-gram panchayats of Telangana 
Hyderabad, July 28, 2022: Hon'ble Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Rural Water Supply for Telangana Errabelli Dayakar Rao Garu today inaugurated the Telangana Gram Panchayat LED Street Lighting Project at Rayaparthy and Parvathagiri Gram Panchayats of the state. This project will be implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry of Power.
 
The launch event witnessed the presence of Mr. Venkatesh Dwivedi, Group Executive Director (Projects & BD, EESL), Mr. Anil Kumar Choudhary, (Head Operations, EESL), Mrs. Savitri Singh, Cluster Head, Operations, EESL, and other senior officials from local as well as state administration. As part of the project, around 7,90,000 energy efficient, smart LED streetlights will be installed/ retrofitted in 12,753 Gram Panchayats of Telangana.
 
Errabelli Dayakar Rao Garu, Hon’ble Minister of PR & RD, Telangana, said, “Empowering the rural community with well-lit streets will play a significant role in enhancing the overall development in the state of Telangana. The Gram Panchayat Streetlighting Project will be instrumental in making our people feel safe and secure in their surroundings. These energy efficient streetlights have already led to monetary savings and significant reduction in carbon emissions in Telangana. Going forward, we envision not just bright roads and streets, but also an energy efficient and energy secure future for the state.”
 
Arun Kumar Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, EESL, said, “Our vision through Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) is to enable mass-scale transformation of India’s public lighting infrastructure. Access to affordable, energy efficient electricity is a step in the right direction in leading India towards a sustainable and self-reliant future, while also helping us get closer to our global commitment towards climate change. We are thankful to the state of Telangana for extending this opportunity to us. We hope the citizens residing in Gram Panchayats of the state will benefit from these streetlights and enjoy an improved standard of living.”
 
Venkatesh Dwivedi, Group Executive Director, EESL, said, “The implementation of Gram Panchayat Streetlighting Project in Telangana will help in meeting the objective of making roads safer for pedestrians. Our goal is to retrofit around 7,90,000 streetlights in villages across Telangana, thereby facilitating large-scale transformation across the state.”
 
In a span of seven years, EESL has installed/replaced more than 1.28 crore LED streetlights in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across India and Gram Panchayats in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. This has led to a cumulative energy savings of 8.44 billion kWh per year and has resulted in GHG emission reduction of 5.81 million tonne CO2 per year.
