Central Govt MEE team visits Telangana
Hyderabad: A team from MoEF& CC, Government of India visited Telangana State from 09th to 13th of October’ 2021 for conducting “Management Effectiveness Evaluation” (MEE) in Manjeera Wildlife Sanctuary at Sangareddy, MahavirHarinaVanasthali National Park, Hyderabad and Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary in Mahabubabad district.
The team led by B.K.Singh, IFS.,Retd. Former Prl. Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Karnataka consisted of three other members i.e., Dr.P.K.Mathur, Dr.P.S.Easa and Dr.C.Ramesh. Each of the members specialized in different aspects of Protective Area Management.
After completing the Field Evaluation of the above Protected Areas, the team reached Hyderabad on 13.10.2021 and interacted with PCCF(HoFF) and CWLW, Telangana, R.Sobha and other senior Forest Officers.
The MEE team expressed satisfaction with the Management of Protected Areas evaluated by them and appreciated the efforts of the field staff and the Officers concerned. They were of the opinion that the field Officers and staff are fully motivated towards their job and the future of these Protected Areas is bright.
The team offered certain constructive suggestions like creating more nesting grounds for birds in Manjeera and better coordination with the local communities who can be supportive to the PA Managers. Regarding MHV National Park, the team suggested that, the existing open areas shall be developed as Grass lands for Antelopes like Black buck and Four horned Antelope. They also recommended for connecting the isolated Forest Blocks within the National Park by constructing Eco-bridges and under passes to facilitate movement of Wild animals in the entire notified National Park Area.
Regarding Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary, the MEE team expressed appreciation of the efforts of Forest staff in evicting encroachers in 500 Ha. area and developing it as a Grass Land. They recommended taking up measures to strengthen protection by setting up base camps and mobile parties.
The team also suggested developing a Data base on the distribution and status of Floral and Faunal; species in all the three Protected Areas evaluated by them. The PCCF, Telanganaexpressed her appreciation and thanked the MEE team from Govt. Of India for giving valuable and practical suggestions for improving the Management of Protected Areas in the State.
