Kurnool, April 15, 2021: KIMS Kurnool doctors done World's rarest endoscopy treatment and gave a new life to 10 year old boy. Medical gastroenterologist Dr L Rajendra Prasad performed  endoscopy instead of surgery inorder to cure the disease.

Speaking about the treatment, he said Goutham a 10-year-old boy was admitted to Hospital with symptoms such as sore throat, shortness of breath, fever and chest pain for a week.Treatment with antibiotics was started initially as it was considered as pneumonia. As the disease progressed, we performed a CT scan that  revealed pus in the boy's throat, around the heart, and between the lungs Dr explained.

The patient's parents reported that a long piece of stick had accidentally been inserted into the Goutham's mouth the day before the illness. After hearing that we suspect that a hole was formed behind the throat and consulted a gastroenterologist for confirmation. Later, the boy underwent pediatric endoscopy and was found to have a 6 mm hole in his throat.Through this hole the saliva in the mouth goes out of the food and food pipe and gets pus into the middle part of the lungs around the heart. At first we decided to do a surgery in order to remove the pus, but we afraid that the surgery maybe risk the boy's life said doctors. due to the high risk and complications of surgery, Dr. Rajendra Prasad suggested that the problem could be solved by removing the pus through endoscopy without surgery and continuing with antibiotics.

Through pediatric endoscopy the pus goes through that hole to the back of the throat to the center of the heart, lungs and removes the pus there. Pediatric Surgeon Dr Srikanth removed the bad water that had gathered around the lungs on the left side through a chest tube. A week later the boy had another endoscopy and found that the hole inside his throat was closed. Once again a CT scan revealed some more pus close to the heart between the lungs. Leading Interventional Radiologist‌ Dr Ashok completely removed the remaining pus through the needle With the help of ultrasound . "Open thoracic and neck surgery may be required in such critical situations. But the treatment was completed without the need of any operation. Now the boy claims to be eating by mouth without any trouble" Dr Rajendra Prasad explained.

Doctors from London congratulated Dr Rajendra Prasad  about the treatment of the disease. They said it was rare for a 10-year-old boy to receive such critical treatment.. Dr Rajendra Prasad said.
