Andhra Pradesh bags 6 awards, 2 cities awarded 5-Star rating for being garbage free cities

Amaravati, 7 October 2022:  As part of the Swachh Survekshan 2022, Andhra Pradesh won 6 awards and 2 cities received 5-star ratings for being garbage free cities. In line with the guidelines set by National Green Tribunal (NGT), the awards were presented by the President Droupadi Murmu in Delhi, where Tirupati won the “Safaimitra Suraksha Seher” award while Vijayawada won the “Cleanest State/National Capital” award. Even Visakhapatnam won the “Clean Big City” under the 10-40 lakh population category. CM YS Jagan’s home constituency Pulivendula was awarded the “Innovation and Best practices” award at the Swachh Survekshan 2022.  Appreciating the efforts put in by the officials, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the review meeting of the Urban Development department and Municipal Administration Department at camp office in Tadepalli, on Friday, congratulated and guided them to achieve more in the coming days.
 
Adhering to the 10 guidelines set by NGT, the departments officials briefed the CM on the linking process of all the urban areas to at least one Sewage Treatment Plant (STPs) and Waste processing unit to manage and treat waste produced in the state. CM YS Jagan also asked the officials to chalk out a plan so that all the APTIDCO houses and Jagananna Colonies would be mapped to the STPs, thus treating wastewater in time. The CM also suggested that the officials could consider including pothole-free lanes as part of the guidelines so that required measures would be put in place in each ward to access and revamp the pothole-filled roads.
 
“Ensure by March 2023 all the roads are fixed as the monsoon season is nearing an end. The works should begin now so that it would be completed by next year. Visit each ward and access the roads. If there’s a need for asphalting of roads, it has to be taken up. Keep a price money for the best roads so that the municipalities have some responsibility,” the CM, said.
 
While the CM had ordered for a complete ban on plastic flexes and banners across the state in addition to the already existing plastic cover ban, CM YS Jagan instructed that the DCs should hold awareness drives with printing companies in their district on the ban. The CM also instructed officials to work out a plan to provide additional financial aid if there’s a burden in terms of conversion rate. The officials have been instructed to speak with banks and provide these companies with loans from the banks. If there’s prompt payment, then the interest rate could be reduced.

     To beautify the cities across the state, CM YS Jagan had launched the Jagananna Haritha Nagaralu competition where citizens would ensure that the city is beautified and the best city or the portion is awarded. As of now 45 ULBs are participating in the “Green City challenge” and by January next year, the awards will be distributed. In addition, the airport road in Vijayawada is being beautified by having artworks on walls and even ensuring 38 different species of plants are being planted and maintained. Several organizations and colleges have come forward to aid the government in maintaining them.
 
CM YS Jagan said that the same work can be extended to other parts of the city to ensure that the beautification work can be taken up at the earliest and the city looks much presentable.
