Hyderabad, 4th August 2022: Around 2 Lakh citizens across the country are affected by road accidents and almost 1 Lakh of them succumb to fatal injuries. In case of a medical emergency or road accident, ambulance drivers are often the first ones to interact with the victims. If they have the skill to save the victims, it'll be most useful. But, unfortunately, most drivers are not trained enough to save the accident victims. 4th August is observed as World Bone and Joint day. On this occasion, KIMS hospitals Secunderabad, in partnership with Telangana Orthopedic Surgeons Association (TOSA) under the Aegis of  Indian Orthopedic Association (IOA)  and Twin Cities Orthopedic Surgeons Association (TCOS) organized a hands-on workshop to ambulance drivers. This year's theme of the Bone and Joint day is Each One, Save One.

If ambulance drivers are equipped with life-saving skills, it can make a difference between life & death for most patients. This initiative aims to equip the common man with skills that can help save a life. The ambulance drivers, technicians & other first responders will be given training by expert orthopaedics and emergency & casualty specialists from across the city.

Dr Srinivas Kasha, Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon KIMS Hospital Secunderabad & Secretary, TOSA said “Every citizen should be equipped with the basic knowledge & skill to save a life in an emergency. It is the need of the hour. It will significantly improve the care for & survival chances of any victim in an accident, emergency or trauma. It is our honor to be organising this workshop with the theme ‘Each one, Save one” to teach common people, who are often the first responders, how to care for the victims.”

The Basic Life Support training includes a live demonstration by experts on how to give first aid to road accident victims or those suffering from choking or even a heart attack.

Further, this workshop is not only restricted to ambulance drivers but is extended to others including traffic police, cab drivers & auto drivers. In most cases, even before the ambulance arrives, the auto drivers, cab drivers or traffic constables may be present in the area & if they are equipped to save a life that would significantly increase the chances of the patient’s survival.
