Awareness programme on World Kidney Day organised by CARE Group of Hospitals

Hyderabad, 12th  March 2021: On the occasion of World Kidney Day, CARE Hospitals Banjara Hills and Hi-tech City organised an awareness program on 'Living well with Kidney Disease’. The objective of the program was to raise awareness on the impact of kidney disease and highlight the importance of proper management and treatment in order to enhance the quality of life for patients with kidney disease.The program was inaugurated by Dr Nikhil Mathur, Chief of Medical Services, CARE Group of Hospitals. The session was attended by the team of eminent Nephrologists and Urologists from CARE Hospitals including Dr Vikranth Reddy, Dr Prasad Raju, Dr Vamshi Krishna, Dr Santosh Hedau, Dr Mohammed Shoeb Ahmed Khan, Dr Arvind Reddy and Dr Rahul Medakkar HCOO, CARE Hospitals (Banjara Hills). Also in presence were senior doctors from CARE Hospitals, patients and students.
 
Dr Vikranth Reddy, Senior Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, addressed the panellists and audience on the impact of Kidney Disease. He highlighted that one in ten adults is at a risk of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). People with uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension are at a greater risk of contacting the kidney disease. In fact people can lose up to 90% of kidney function before experiencing any symptoms. Hence, it is imperative to be aware of the risk factors and go for periodic screenings to help detect kidney diseases at an early stage.

Dr Rahul Medakkar, HCOO, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills spoke about the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle for healthy kidneys. He urged people to eat a healthy diet, stay well-hydrated, keep fit and active, avoid smoking and drinking, refrain taking over-the-counter medications especially painkillers and manage stress.
