Anantapur, 4th July 2020: Doctors at KIMS Saveera saved the life of a 60-yr-old male patient, Mr. Kistappa, by removing the bone stuck in his food pipe. Mr. Kistappa from Guntakal was having difficulty in speech and swallowing for 4 days. Thanks to Dr. Krishna V P, Consultant Gastroenterologist, and his team of doctors at KIMS Saveera, he is saved. The hospital is providing emergency care even during this lockdown period.

The foreign body in the throat is very dangerous and can cause choking. Sometimes choking can lead to death. The patient ate meat four days ago, following which he developed severe pain in his throat with difficulty in speech and difficulty in swallowing even saliva. When brought to KIMS Saveera he was in severe pain. On further investigation, a 2cm long bone was seen in the food pipe in his throat.

Talking about this case, Dr. Krishna says, “These cases are not as easy as they look to be. This is a foreign body that is stuck in the patient’s throat. If not removed, it may cause a hole in the food pipe leading to infections. The bone piece was removed endoscopically. An endoscopic tube was inserted into his throat through his mouth and removed the bone. Following this, all his symptoms improved. He was discharged in stable condition.”

“We are glad to be of help. Our hospital and staff are working relentlessly to serve the patients during this crisis time. We are committed to helping our people,” he added.
