Pradeep, who became well-known to everyone as a TV anchor, made his hero debut with the film "30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela." After taking a break, he has now returned with a new film titled "Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi." Alongside Pradeep, Deepika Pilli, who has appeared in various television programs, stars as the female lead. This film has released today for audiences. Let's find out in this review whether Pradeep has succeeded in his second attempt or not...
Story:
In the village of Bhairilanka, people believe that the lack of female births is causing misfortunes and preventing rainfall. In this context, Rajakumari (Deepika) is the only female child born in the village. When she grows up, the village elder decrees that she cannot leave the village and must marry one of the sixty young men from their community. Her parents agree to this decision.
Just as Rajakumari comes of age, a civil engineer named Krishna (Pradeep Machiraju) arrives in the village to construct toilets. The village youth, who dislike outsiders coming to their village, allow Krishna to stay only under certain conditions. Under these circumstances, why does Krishna fall in love with Rajakumari? How do these two come together despite the village rules? What do the sixty young men who are waiting to marry Rajakumari do? This forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
This is a simple, lighthearted tale. It feels like a regular attempt to build entertaining scenes around this storyline to move the narrative forward. The directors designed a character similar to Pradeep's TV persona, where he delivers comedy with his own style of punchlines. Since the film's directors also direct a comedy show on television, it seems they wrote some comedy scenes for this film in a similar sketch-style format. However, when entertainment is the main goal, the comedy scenes should be more hilarious. When there's a lack of logic and emotions in the story, the chosen narrative should be transformed into a fully entertaining story.
Unfortunately, the director's comedy writing doesn't reach the level needed to entertain on the big screen, so the humor falls flat. The film feels more like a story created for comedy rather than comedy arising from the story. While the first half feels somewhat passable, the director fails to impress the audience in the second half. The extended comedy scenes make viewers feel impatient due to the dragging narrative.
Satya, who appears as Bilal, doesn't make much of an impression in this film as he has delivered better comedy in his previous works. Notably, Getup Sreenu's comedy and Vennela Kishore's humor in the second half provide some relief to the audience. There isn't enough emotional depth for viewers to connect with this story. The director doesn't seem to have put much effort into the love scenes between the hero and heroine. Despite having many comedians and characters on screen, the director failed to design these roles effectively.
Performances:
Though there's nothing new about his character, Pradeep tries to impress as Engineer Krishna with his own style of punchlines. However, without any great scenes to showcase his acting talent, Pradeep simply goes through the motions with the scenes given to him.
The energy he displays on television doesn't translate to his silver screen character. Satya and Getup Sreenu provide laughs within their limitations. When the film starts to drag in the second half, Vennela Kishore's comedy as Rohith generates some interest in the movie. Brahmanandam also tries to deliver laughs in his role.
Bal Reddy's camera work and Radhan's music stand as plus points for the film.
Final Verdict:
Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi is a film that tries to blend comedy with a rural love story but ends up as a patchy entertainer. While the premise holds some potential, weak screenplay and stretched humor prevent it from clicking. Fans of Pradeep or lighthearted village comedies might find a few moments to enjoy, but overall, it doesn’t offer enough to stand out.
